A review of eCommerce Expo, Olympia London September 26-27, 2018

Styleintelligence view: (down from 5 in 2017) eCommerce Expo is one of the largest ecommerce events in the UK attracting a very large audience over the two days to Olympia. The reason we have downgraded this show is due to the simple fact it has shrunk dramatically. Top vendors such as SAP, Manhattan Associates and many other big brands have disappeared from the layout. While this may be good for small to medium sized vendors it also show a certain trend for these larger ex-exhibitors to run their own events where they can spend more and control who is visiting...

The real reason for the demise of high street retailers - customer service

Retail is detail... and customer service.  Long gone are the days when you could instruct your store staff to decline any returns or refunds for whatever reason. However, in an online world the ability of customers who feel they have been wronged to broadcast their grievance has empowered customers to a level which legacy retailers do not appear well prepared for. Following the [again] lacklustre results from Arcadia Group we took it upon us to go through their finances to see if there is anything alluding to why the company is not doing well and gaining online traction where Asos...

The event is organised by We Are Pentagon The main theatre at #RWB18, ex-Alibaba speker Al Gerrie, CEO at ZigZag Global

In addition to this we also read about Just-Eat's development of a hardware platform for its partner restaurants. All this is pointing to increased competition for retailer's and hospitality businesses IT estate - but what does it really mean? Will EPOS and ERP-light suppliers experience a declining market? To what extent is hardware and EPOS used as a way to 'tie in' customers and partners? Our take on...

The Boohoo & Missguided effect is creating new business in Manchester; this time LOTD

Sitting in a cafe a day or two before Christmas 2017 we saw a bus with an advertisment promoting a new clothing website -> www.lotd.com Source: Screenshot of lotd.com on 21 Dec, 2017. Our thought was initially - Is there another company starting to use the TfL advertising trick as used by Boohoo, Missguided, Nasty Gal, Prettylittlething, Heist Studios and other pureplay online fashion retailers? After a quick check we noticed one of the directors of Lotd Ltd resigned from Boohoo.com UK Ltd in April 2017. Lotd Ltd was incorporated in March 2017 and share its office address with TheRobertStreetHub,...
